ELTON Chigumbura believes his charges are prepared for the tough ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup to be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The tournament is set for January 15 to February 6.

Chigumbura, the Zimbabwe Under 19 coach, remains optimistic despite what appears a challenging level for his boys.

“We have played more games, domestic and international. (The) guys have managed to test themselves against the international standards, we played against South Africa, Bangladesh and Ireland . . . ” he said.

“Now, before the tournament, we have got Pakistan and Afghanistan to just polish up. We have the final 15 who will get their last opportunity in this tri-series. I feel we are ready. It’s now time to showcase what we have been preparing.”

Chigumbura believes playing at home will give them an urge against their opponents.

“The belief within the team is there. Obviously playing at home, we have got massive support, family will be close. It should bring lots of energy and passion so that we go out there and give it our best and make sure the country is proud.”

Chigumbura said they are fearless against the competition and they will play positive cricket. “At this level, most teams are almost on the same level. It’s just a matter of believing in ourselves, in our own game, and in our preparation. We just have to go out there and play fearless cricket, positive cricket. With the way the guys are playing now, I am very confident that we will go far.”

Chigumbura said he will be targeting the ultimate prize, the World Cup trophy.

“Obviously it’s a must to win the World Cup. But to get there you are going to have to focus on processes, one game at a time, making sure the guys do their best in terms of their role play and play as a team.”

Former Zimbabwe international Tatenda Taibu is set as the tournament ambassador while Hamilton Masakadza will be the tournament director.
