The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) will convene its National Congress on August 29, 2025 in Harare.
The congress will be held under the theme: “ZUJ 2025 – Worker Rights and Union Strengthening.”
In a statement, ZUJ president George Maponga said the congress is being held in accordance with Section 8 of the ZUJ Constitution.
“Whereas, we as the National Council of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ), have now resolved to the holding of the National Congress 2025,” he said.
“Now therefore, the National Council of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists hereby declares in terms of Section 8 of the ZUJ Constitution, that the National Congress 2025 shall be held on August 29 2025.”
The agenda of the congress will include the reading of the notice convening congress, confirmation of the minutes of the previous congress and presentation of reports by the president, secretary-general, treasurer, branches and the gender mainstreaming committee.
The congress will also include the election of office bearers and consideration of any other business.
Members have been advised that in line with Section 8 (c) of the ZUJ Constitution, they may propose additions to the agenda at least seven days before the date of the congress.
The ZUJ national congress is the highest decision-making body of the union and is expected to address key issues affecting journalists while setting the agenda for ZUJ’s strategic direction.
