Zimbabwe Volleyball Association yields results

ZIMBABWE Volleyball Association (ZVA) says the success of the country’s representatives at the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games is testament of investment done at grassroots levels.

The men’s Under-20 team won gold at the AUSC Region 5 Games, with the women’s side coming home from Malawi with bronze.

Mxolisi Ndlovu, the ZVA president said to achieve success in Malawi, they embarked on a preparatory journey for the 2022 AUSC Region 5 Games in 2020 by identifying areas needing to be beefed up after the Maseru edition of the sporting extravaganza.

“The board on its strategic focus has maintained that athletes must be coached by relevantly qualified coaches. As a way of implementation ZVA capacitated its coaches by upgrading FIVB level 1 coaches to FIVB level 2. On that note four FIVB Level 2 coaches were given the mandate to take care of the team. Our athletes have responded to the project and we see the results of all our Zimbabwean volleyball family for building such good teams.

“To the athletes we say well done for a good job. You raised the Zimbabwe flag higher and we are proud of you. The hard work you have done is well appreciated and on behalf of the ZVA board of administration we say thank you to you and your coaches for scooping bronze and gold in the girls and boys category. Competition was indeed tough and you managed to pull the expected results,” Ndlovu said.

Nyashadzashe Takawira was in charge of the men’s team in Malawi where he was assisted by Mthulisi Mlilo, while Patricia Muzokomba was the women’s team head coach with Kudzi Mzondo second in charge.

The quartet was part of the FIVB Level 2 coaching class that graduated in August. FIVB Level 2 is almost the highest coaching qualification in the world before the instructors’ certificate. — @ZililoR
