Marvelous Nakamba has signed for Greek top-flight side Panetolikos.
Nakamba, 32, joined Sheffield Wednesday in February on a free transfer from Luton Town, making a small number of appearances, mainly off the bench. He was let go at the end of the season and became a free agent.
The Zimbabwe international has now signed for Greek top-flight side Panetolikos, penning a contract until June 2028.
Questions were asked why Nakamba was not getting more game-time last season, which Henrik Pedersen said was down to competition for places and the performances of Svante Ingelsson, Jaden Heskey and Jarvis Thornton.
He explained at the time: “There has been a big competition [for places]. Svante, he has been one of our absolute best players. Jaden has been very strong. Jarvis, as a young guy, he has also been strong. So it has been difficult for him. But Marv is a fantastic guy, and he has trained
really well, and he tries to do all the right things. I’m sure there will also be more playing time for him.”
As well as his brief stint at Hillsborough, Nakamba has also played for Aston Villa, Luton Town, Club Brugge and Vitesse among others.
He was a popular figure, particularly at Luton, scoring in the penalty shootout win against Coventry City in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, making 20 appearances in the second-half of that memorable campaign for The Hatters.
Luton’s CEO, Gary Sweet, spoke positively about him before he left to join Wednesday: “Marvelous has been a huge part of our success, a special character who came to add real quality at the time we needed it to help us to promotion.
