The newly reconstituted Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC) has issued a nationwide call to action for all youth associations to update their operational status by July 25, 2025, as part of efforts to strengthen the youth sector through unity, accountability and collaboration.

Speaking at the council’s inaugural press conference in Harare on Wednesday, ZYC chairperson Mrs Rutendo Mugwagwa emphasised the need for professional standards across all youth-led organisations.

“As we continue to champion the empowerment of young people, we recognise and applaud the many efforts already made by associations in shaping a vibrant youth sector.

“However, to fully unlock the potential of youth organisations and enhance the effectiveness of our collective impact, it is essential that we support their efforts as they, in turn, align their operations with the highest standards of accountability, transparency and good governance,” said Mrs Mugwagwa.

The council’s inaugural highlighted the council’s broader strategy to build a credible and responsive youth movement aligned with the National Development Strategy goals.

Mrs Mugwagwa said the council is calling on all youth associations to visit the Zimbabwe Youth Council website or their offices to update their operational status.

“This process is not a mere formality; it will serve as a powerful tool that will enable the ZYC to better support the youth, connect them with national opportunities, and advocate more effectively on their behalf with development partners, ministries and the private sector.”

She added that to further support the associations, the council will host a series of workshops designed to unlock new opportunities and enhance their capacities and compliance.

“Compliance is not a burden but a step toward professionalism, recognition, and sustainability.

“By upholding these standards, as youth, we affirm our collective commitment to youth development and position ourselves as reliable partners in Zimbabwe’s transformation.”

Mrs Mugwagwa also encourages all stakeholders, Government departments, NGOs, development partners, and the private sector to engage and support youth associations, thereby strengthening our shared mission.

“We would like to greatly appreciate the efforts by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa, for this progressive development,” she said.

“The second Republic has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to youth, not only through this gesture but by appointing young people in key decision-making positions in Government.”
