The inaugural Bi-National Commission brought to the fore the fact that Zimbabwe and Zambia are Siamese twins — unbreakable, inseparable, and bound by history and culture.
From the start of the BNC, which was concluded this afternoon, it was clear that the unity between the two nations runs far deeper than diplomatic protocol.
Speakers repeatedly evoked a shared past stretching back to the colonial era, when borders were lines on paper but communities lived, traded, and fought as one.
That old truth still echoes today.
The sentiment was reinforced when President Hakainde Hichilema stressed that any blow to Zimbabwe — including sanctions — inevitably shakes Zambia too.
The region’s lifelines, from major highways to mineral belts, weave between the two countries like arteries in a single body, making cooperation not just desirable but essential.
Inside the meetings, ministers and delegates moved with an easy familiarity.
Some chatted in Shona, others in Bemba or Tonga, slipping between languages without breaking comprehension — a reminder that Zimbabwe and Zambia are stitched together not only by geography but by bloodlines, marriages, and culture.
And when President Mnangagwa and his Zambian counterpart President Hichilema delivered their speeches, the message of unity was sealed as the leaders stressed that the Zimbabwe-Zambia bond remains unbreakable.
