Zimbabwean prison escapee recaptured in Botswana

A ZIMBABWEAN woman facing murder charges who escaped from the Gaborone Women Prison has been recaptured.
Stella Sibanda (50) escaped from the Botswana prison that houses female inmates resulting in the Botswana Prison Service launching a manhunt to bring her back into custody.

She was recaptured in the early morning hours of Thursday in Gaborone.

“The Botswana Prison Service wishes to inform members of the public that prisoner Stella Sibanda, aged 50, who escaped from Gaborone Women Prison on 4 February has been recaptured at Gaborone Block 3.

“The Botswana Prison Service extends its appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation and to other law enforcement agencies who worked tirelessly to ensure the recapture of the inmate.

“We would like to assure the nation that measures are continuously being strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future and the safety and security of the public remains our top priority,” said the prison service in a statement.
