The Government has reassured the public that all Zimbabwean citizens who contacted the country’s embassies in Middle Eastern nations affected by recent unrest have been accounted for and are safe.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, authorities said they are monitoring developments in the region.

The Ministry noted that in accordance with Section 35, Subsection 3 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, all citizens are entitled to the protection and benefits of the State regardless of their location abroad.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade is following closely the developments in the Middle East,” reads a statement released by Mrs Philiswiwe Chidawanyika, the Ministry’s spokesperson and director of public diplomacy, communications and advocacy.

“Zimbabwean citizens who contacted our embassies in the affected countries are accounted for and confirmed safe.”

Citizens living abroad were urged to register their presence with the nearest Zimbabwean embassy or consulate to ensure effective communication and timely assistance when needed.

“This will enable the Government to provide the necessary services,” said Mrs Chidawanyika.

The ministry also encouraged all Zimbabweans in foreign countries to stay in contact with their diplomatic missions, particularly during times of heightened risk, to enhance their safety and ensure swift Government response if required.
