ZIMBABWEANS stole the show in the Caf Champions League preliminary match between Kaizer Chiefs and Black Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday evening.Kingstone Nkhata scored a brace in Chiefs’ 3-0 win in a match that was well officiated by the Zimbabwean quartet of Ruzive Ruzive (centre), Abraham Manda of Hwange and Salani Ncube.
Thabani Bamala was the fourth official. Mandla Masango scored the opener for Chiefs coming to the end of a cross by Zimbabwean Knowledge Musona in the 18th minute.
Nkhata made it 2-0 on 33 minutes with a shot from outside the box as he continues to soften his boo boys at the Naturena side.
Chiefs created a number of chances but their fighting finally paid dividends in the 85th minute when Nkhata nodded home to give his side a comfortable lead ahead of the weekend’s second leg in Namibia. Matthew Rusike had a good game after coming on the 46th minute for George Lebese.
While the players shone on the pitch, the Zimbabweans officiating the match put up a stellar performance. Their decisions were spot on and they justified the Zimbabwe Soccer Referees Association’s faith in them. The referees won rave reviews at a time when local match officials are still moaning their exclusion from the World Cup shortlist last year.
