Zimbo Mkosana clinches league title in US

PLUMTREE born Lucky Mkosana recently clinched the North American Soccer League (NASL) with United States side New York Cosmos.

Mkosana joined the club in 2014 and since then he has been a permanent feature.

It was Cosmos second consecutive (NASL) Championship and eighth overall win by defeating Indy Eleven 4-2 on penalties after a scoreless 120 minutes at the Belson Stadium.

a�?What a showing by the boys in green . . . , we are the champions again,a�? posted the former Thekwane High School student on his Facebook wall celebrating his special achievement.

NASL is the division just below the Major Soccer League (MLS). Mkosana is not the only player from Africa at Cosmos with Kenyan international David Ochieng also at the club.

Born in Bulawayo, Mkosana (29) played for Dartmouth College where he earned a Bachelora��s Degree and graduated in 2012.

His top drawer performances saw his signature being sought by Chicago Fire in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, but he never signed for the Fire, opting instead to join the Harrisburg City Islanders.

He scored 20 goals and tallied four assists in 41 games for the USL Pro club.A� In 2013 he joined the Tampa Bay Rowdies before joining Cosmos in 2014.

He is even able to juggle football with academics as he has continued to upgrade his education while pursuing his football career.

He is one of two Cosmos players that have enrolled at the Sports Management MBA Program at Universidad Europea de Madrid in Spain, a school the Cosmos recently signed a partnership with.
