The Zimbabwean ambassador to South Africa, David Hamadziripi, has urged Zimbabweans in the neighbouring country w ho wish to return home before the expiry of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit on June 30 to register on the embassy’s online platform.

He said this is to ensure that the Government puts in place adequate resources to assist them.

“Even those who may not need help are encouraged to register to enable the Government to facilitate their return through other measures, such as special facilities at the port of entry into the country or through waivers to the applicable regulations for returning residents.

“As already stated, the mapping exercise is in two parts, with the first part having commenced on February 2 through the launch of the online registration platform.

“The online registration process will end on March 3,” he said.

He said dates for the second phase will be announced in due course.

“It is our intention to conduct it in February and March.

“We will collate the data and other information that will be submitted during the mapping exercise and use them, both in South Africa and in Zimbabwe to elaborate and finalise the plans to assist those who are in need of Government assistance and facilitation in returning home.

“Our Government announced its readiness to welcome the affected nationals back home. We needed to put some planning and coordination structures in place in Zimbabwe before setting the process in motion.

“The principal structures that are now in place are the inter- ministerial committees at both Cabinet and technical officials’ levels,” he said.
