The old skool DJs have teamed up again to bring yesteryear music back to life. If you love soul and R&B this is where it will be happening.
The old skool music pundits will be pleased to know that Kudzi “Mr Kool” Marudza and Tendai “The Sweet Thang” Chakanyuka will be rocking the decks at the ZimCafe Restaurant while Witness “Chuman” Matema will be representing at the ZimCafe Hotel alongside Ronald “D-Train” Chiwanza.
Both shows will be held to mark the Workers Day which is celebrated every year on May 1.
Those who love yesteryear music will have enough dosage courtesy of Mr Kool who has been running the show on Power FM since the 1980s with the likes of radio guru the late Josh Makawa. Mr Kool knows his music like the back of his palm.
Once he takes over the turntables you are assured of a fantastic voyage into sound as Mr Kool throws down some serious party music from the 1970s, 1980s to the 1990s.
While Mr Kool’s act will be spiced up by The Sweet Thang who appeals to female fans when it comes to old skool music.
Also a veteran in her own right, The Sweet Thang continues to wow audiences with her swift delivery on the decks. Most of the songs on her playlists are R&B as well as groovy laid-back hits which fans loved and enjoyed in the golden old days.
But somehow things will be done differently at the ZimCafe when Chuman and D-Train take turns to spin the hits. D-Train is in a class of his own and he is a joy to listen to. His music appeals to mature and trendy audience who patronise the joint.
Chuman, who is also a well known jazz aficionado, will be mixing things up on the decks playing rare grooves and true R&B.
Expect to hear music by Soul II Soul, Teddy Riley, Keith Sweat, R Kelly and many more from the old days.
Hosea Manzunzu, the ZimCafe boss, said he was happy that the renovations at the hotel were almost complete.
“We want to give patrons value for their money and very soon we shall open the hotel. As always, we have maintained quality standards and we hope to give music lovers a great deal of entertainment. All the 37 rooms have been refurbished,” he said.
