Zimbabwe’s media landscape has entered a new era, with Zimpapers commissioning a fully integrated converged newsroom designed to harness technology and data analytics to inform, educate, and empower the nation, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has said.
Dr Muswere said the modern newsroom, which brings together television, radio, print, and digital platforms into a single superdesk, is expected to play a key role in supporting economic growth, agricultural transformation, and the country’s Vision 2030 goals.
Speaking soon after commissioning of the converged newsroom, Dr Muswere said the newsroom is more than just a technological upgrade.
“This platform amplifies our responsibility of being an institution that informs, educates, and entertains the nation,” he said.
The minister highlighted the media’s potential to contribute to macro-economic growth and national development.
“This platform should be utilised to grow the economy. It should be utilised to support agriculture in terms of planning, water information management, as well as land information management systems,” he said.
Dr Muswere also pointed out the importance of cultural, psychological, and business transformation within the newsroom to ensure sustainability in the digital era.
“We need the digital and business transformation to ensure that we increase the return on investment,” he said.
He said the newsroom aligns with the country’s new media policy on digitalisation and technological innovation.
The converged newsroom employs artificial intelligence and data analytics to enable two-way communication with audiences, streamline content creation, and reduce editorial bias.
“This conveyed and integrated content section will ensure we destroy the communication bias and we have seamless information sharing as we support Vision 2030,” Dr Muswere said.
By bringing together all media platforms under one roof, the minister said Zimpapers is positioning itself as a central driver of development and citizen empowerment, ensuring that news and information not only informs but actively supports national priorities and inclusive growth.
