Zimpapers diversifies into courier services business

Sunday News Reporter

BUILDING on its long-standing newspaper delivery operations, which it has perfected over more than 125 years, Zimpapers has entered the courier services sector, marking a strategic shift by the diversified media group into Zimbabwe’s expanding logistics and last-mile delivery industry.

The company’s courier service is now available to the public, initially covering key intercity routes between Harare and Mutare, Harare and Gweru, Harare and Bindura, as well as Harare and Chinhoyi.

This initiative forms part of the group’s broader diversification strategy, aimed at leveraging existing infrastructure, distribution networks and operational expertise to unlock new revenue streams beyond traditional media activities.

Zimpapers, Zimbabwe’s largest integrated media house, has an established presence in newspaper printing, broadcasting and digital publishing.

The group’s Corporate Communications and Sustainability Manager, Mrs Pauline Matanda, stated that the courier service builds on their long-standing distribution systems, which have ensured the timely delivery of publications across the country for decades.

She explained that the introduction of courier services reflects Zimpapers’ commitment to innovation and sustainable growth.

“As a business, we continuously explore opportunities that complement our core operations while creating value for our stakeholders. Our entry into courier services is a natural progression of our diversification strategy.

“We already have proven routes, established logistics systems, and experienced personnel who understand the importance of consistent and timely delivery,” said Mrs Matanda.

The Zimpapers Courier Service is designed to cater to individuals, small-to-medium enterprises and corporates seeking reliable intercity parcel delivery.

Among the key advantages of using Zimpapers Courier Services are proven routes developed over years of nationwide newspaper distribution, consistent delivery schedules and enhanced security that provides customers with peace of mind.

“Our clients can rest assured that their parcels are handled within a structured, dependable system.
The same discipline that ensures our publications reach readers on time is now being extended to courier services,” said Mrs Matanda.

Focusing on high-traffic corridors such as Harare–Mutare, Harare–Gweru, Harare–Bindura and Harare–Chinhoyi, Zimpapers is positioning itself within strategic economic routes that connect the capital to key provincial hubs.

Mrs Matanda added that sustainability considerations also informed the rollout.

“We are aligning this new service with our sustainability framework by optimising existing transport routes and infrastructure. This approach ensures operational efficiency whilst minimising additional environmental impact,” she said, noting that the initial rollout will be closely monitored, with plans to expand to further routes subject to uptake and market demand.

The launch underscores Zimpapers’ evolving business model as it seeks to remain competitive in a dynamic media and commercial landscape, while capitalising on synergies within its established distribution network.
