Zimpapers dominates National Tourism Awards

was crowned the 2011 Tourism Image Builders of the Year.
The award was received by group chief operations officer and editor-in-chief Mr Pikirayi Deketeke.

Herald features editor Isdore Guvamombe scooped the prestigious Tourism Personality of the Year Award.
He becomes the first journalist in Zimbabwe to win the highest national tourism accolade.

The veteran journalist also won the Minister’s Special Recognition Award, a preserve of Minister Mzembi to the highest performers and contributors to the growth and development of tourism in a particular year.
Guvamombe received US$5 000 cash and some holiday packages, among other prizes.

Journalists have restricted themselves to contesting the Tourism Writer of the Year Award since the launch of the awards a decade ago. Guvamombe has, however, broken new ground.
Businessman Mr Philip Chiyangwa and the Tourism Council of Zimbabwe president Mr Emmanuel Fundira shared the prestigious award last year. ZimTravel associate editor Costa Mano scooped The Tourism Writer of the Year Award.

ZimTravel is another title in the Zimpapers stable.
The National Tourism Awards are held annually to coincide with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s World Tourism Day.
