THE Sunday Mail, the country’s leading weekly and a key title on the Zimpapers stable, has donated goods and money worth about $2,000 to Batanai Old People’s Home in Gweru in commemoration of Mother’s Day. The publication paid an electricity bill of $200, a water bill of $650 and provided stress packs, 200 chicks and 16x50kg bags of chicken feed.
The donation was handed over to the administration of the home by Zimpapers’ business manager Charity Gwata-Chirume and the Midlands Chronicle business development officer, Martin Sibanda.
Speaking after handing over the goods, Gwata-Chirume said the donation on the annual Mother’s Day commemorations was their way of giving back to the community.
“We celebrate this day annually with the aid of Help-Age Zimbabwe as a way of giving back to the community and saying ‘thank you’ to our mothers whose love to us is as timeless as the paper (The Sunday Mail) itself.
“Our main value is to give value to the gift of life and there is no better way to do that than to honour our mothers who may be old but their value can never diminish in our eyes,” said Gwata-Chirume.
Batanai Old People’s Home houses nine elderly people and is not affiliated to any church organisation but is dependent on hand outs from wellwishers in the community.
