A SECURITY guard at Anjin Diamond Mine in Mutare reportedly assaulted his disabled nephew before robbing him of R800. Similo Ncube, 27, an ex-police officer, appeared before Plumtree magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa facing robbery and assault charges. Prosecuting, Medica Tshuma said Ncube pounced on his nephew, Mgcini Ncube, 23, on May 27 accusing him of insulting him sometime back.

He allegedly ordered Mgcini, who has difficulties walking and has speech challenges to surrender all the cash he realised from selling fuel.
When he refused, Ncube allegedly pushed him to the ground and thereafter kicked him on the chest and neck.

Tshuma said the incident occurred near Ngekhaya business centre in Izimnyama area, Mangwe district.
“His uncle beat him and then robbed him of his cash. Mgcini  was later assisted by passers-by, ” said Tshuma.

Ncube pleaded guilty to assault but denied the robbery charge.
“I beat up my nephew because he is disrespectful towards me. He insulted me in 2012 and I was always reminding him that I would discipline him for that incident,” he said.

Ncube said on the day he met Mgcini his nephew was rude to him and that is why he beat him up.
He was remanded in custody to June 10 for trial.
