Speaking at the inaugural Zimpapers Vendor of the Quarter Awards in Harare yesterday, Mr Mutasa said vendors deserved more support.
He pledged to give each of the nine winners a sack of maize from his farm as well as another sack of beans to be shared among the gro- up.
Mr Mutasa recounted the story of a quick-thinking Zimpapers vendor who averted a morning traffic snarl at a busy city intersection.
“The robot was not working and the vendor took on the role of a traffic cop and successfully directed the traffic to ensure a smooth flow.
“He was authoritative and we all obeyed his instructions, even the commuter omnibus drivers.”
The lucky vendor received a cash token for his efforts from Mr Mutasa.
Speaking at the same function, Harare Branch general manager Mr Walter Chipwaya said the awards were expected to grow and will include agents across Zimbabwe.
Godfrey Kanonga scooped the first prize of $300, Eveline Kangoma and Stephen Wadhara were the first and second runners-up respectively.
Magdalene Mobo of Chitungwiza, Tobias Mukwara of Highfield and Laimon Antony of Warren Park-Mufakose won the area office awards.
Judith Kaseke and Grace Maya won prizes in deportment and punctuality while Mpulula Malifasi was rewarded for his outstanding sales effort.
