Zimpapers journalists shine

Journalists from diversified media group, Zimpapers, shone at this year’s edition of the Mining Media Awards held in the capital last week, dominating in most of the awards that were on offer.

Business Hub reporters Ishemunyoro Chingwere and Africa Moyo, Chronicle’s Gibson Mhaka and Obey Sibanda as well as Dumisani Nsingo of The Sunday News all walked away with accolades from the awards that are held to honour and celebrate journalists who write incisive mining news.

Chingwere won the Platinum Reporter of the year award and was also awarded the first runner-up price in the Diamond sector Reporter of the year category while Moyo walked away with the first price in the Gold Sector Reporter of the year category.

Mhaka scooped the Health and Safety reporter of the year award, Chrome sector best reporter of the year award and overall mining sector reporter of the year award.

Chingwere said the awards are further proof that Zimpapers is the best news organisation in the country especially during this era of fake news that is dominating the social media and is now sadly also taking root in some publications in the mainstream media.

“For me this is just another confirmation of what the market has always known that is Zimpapers is the best news organisation in this country,” said Chingwere.

“You will know that Government is pursuing The Vision 2030 by which Zimbabwe should be an upper middle income earning country and as a journalist, it gives me pride that my efforts in abetting the mining sector which is expected to play a key role towards this have been noted,” said Chingwere.Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando, applauded the journalists for their important role in covering the mining sector and implored the media to continue its work with the mining industry.

“The coverage of the mining sector by the media is commended because it is in line with the President (Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa)’s vision 2030 mantra. I applaud all the winners and all the other journalists who have not made it today and urge them to continue serving the country through reporting on such crucial matters,” said Minister Chitando.
