THE buzz-worthy Ladies’ Sundowner Picnic is fast shaping up to be one of this month’s stand out gatherings in Harare, promising an afternoon of inspiration, reconnection and empowerment.
Zimpapers, through its flagship brands — The Herald and Star FM — is organising the event with the objective of unifying a diverse network of ladies, as they converge on Villa Gianni Boutique Hotel in Avondale, Harare, on Saturday.
The event, which will run under the theme “Creating Generational Wealth”, has drawn significant attention, from seasoned business leaders to emerging start-ups, in a celebration of entrepreneurship, collaboration and personal growth. What is making the upcoming event exciting is the latest confirmation by Dr Divine Ndhlukula, bringing her celebrated voice to the heart of the picnic. She joins a powerful line-up of other presenters who include chairperson of the Mutapa Investment Fund, Dr Chipo Mutasa; Zimbabwe Free-Range Poultry Association founder Mrs Beauty Jiji; and Grassland Waters Resort visionary Mrs Grace Musandirire.
In an interview, Zimpapers public relations and events manager (DAP) Mrs Pauline Matanda said they were gratified by Dr Ndhlukula’s confirmation. She said the development elevated the event’s status and its importance in celebrating and empowering women across Zimbabwe.
“Dr Ndhlukula’s confirmation comes hard on the heels of other trailblazers that also include Dr Chipo Mutasa; DNMZ (South Africa and Zimbabwe) human resources director Mrs Sibyl Madzikanda; as well as Mrs Rachel Chibaya, founder of R. Chibaya Law Chambers,” said Matanda.
“We are so much excited that with the quality of the speakers that we have, the Ladies’ Sundowner Picnic gives attendees a chance to engage directly with the momentum,” she said.
It is hoped the picnic would leave an indelible mark and deliver a more impactful experience for attendees, as the presenters will speak on various topics, as well as share their personal experiences.
Dr Ndhlukula’s participation at the event follows her recent appointment as Women’s University in Africa (WUA) chancellor, a landmark moment aimed at advancing women’s education and leadership, not only in Zimbabwe, but the continent at large.
Her legacy as a trailblazer in business includes founding a security services company, Securico, thus pushing boundaries in male-dominated sectors.
The WUA chancellor’s consistent work in empowering women through philanthropy, education and social initiatives is well-documented.
The Herald editor Victoria Ruzvidzo, in a recent interview, highlighted the importance of the forthcoming event in Zimpapers’ wider scope to empower women in business and foster collaboration over competition.
“Through events like the Ladies’ Sundowner Picnic, we are building a space where women can connect authentically, exchange ideas and leave with renewed purpose. It’s about showing up as you are and being seen,” she said.

“Events like these are more than networking platforms. They are statements of intent. They show that the Zimbabwean woman is not waiting to be invited to the table; she is building her own.”
Zimbabwe currently stands at a pivotal moment, with recent policy and social shifts that place women’s advancement and value-addition in education, business and leadership at the forefront.
