Masvingo Zimbabwe 19 March 2026 Zimpapers launched a Junior Media Club at Rujeko High, providing students with a platform to develop writing, reporting and media skills. The program is part of Zimpapers effort to nurture responsible young journalists in council-owned schools.
The launch event brought together lively students and teachers, all eager to participate in the new initiative. During the event, students were introduced to the goals of the Junior Media Club and shown how they could contribute articles, photos and stories to the Junior Media Club newsletter.
Teachers emphasized that this opportunity would help students develop essential skills for school projects, competitions and future careers in media and communication.
Zimpapers representatives highlighted the importance of journalistic responsibility and ethics, teaching students how to report news accurately, verify facts and write clearly. “We hope this club will inspire students to share stories that matter in their school and community,” said Mr Langgton Nyakwenda.
Many students expressed excitement about joining the club. One student said, “I am thrilled to learn how to write articles and take photos for the newsletter. This club will give me a chance to share stories about our school and community that people might not know.” Another student added, “I have always wanted to be a reporter, and this is a great first step. I look forward to learning from professionals and contributing to real publications.”
Teachers moreover welcomed the initiative, noting that it complements the school’s curriculum and encourages creativity and critical thinking. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students,” said Mr Jack the school headmaster. “It is good to teach our students discipline, responsibility and communication skills that will benefit them in all areas of life.”
The articles, photographs and stories produced by Rujeko High club members will be published in the upcoming Junior Media Club newsletter. Students will also participate in workshops, competitions and other activities designed to sharpen their reporting and writing skills.
With the launch of the Junior Media Club held at our school, students now have a unique opportunity to develop practical media skills, express their voices and contribute meaningfully to the school community. Through this program, Zimpapers is building a foundation for future journalists who will help inform and inspire their peers.
