ZIMBABWE’S integrated media giant, Zimpapers, has secured a strategic position at the forefront of African media innovation by signing a new Memorandum Of Understanding with Russian media behemoth, Rossiya Segodnya, the parent company of Sputnik.

The landmark agreement updates and expands upon an existing cooperation pact. It places advanced technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), at the heart of their deeper cooperation.

The strategic alliance is designed to power the ongoing Zimpapers Digital Transformation Strategy, driving the Zimbabwean media leader’s evolution into an integrated, digital-first multimedia newsroom utilising AI and data analytics.

Signed amidst a broader expansion effort involving multiple African media and academic institutions. The deal sets up frameworks for expert dialogue, shared perspectives, and joint events. The milestone also aligns with the run-up to the current Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, which is focusing heavily on digital technologies, economic ties, and AI cooperation.

Zimpapers Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, Mr Gorden Tawanda Mwerenga, noted that the partnership enables sharing authentic stories about Zimbabwe and Russia across borders.

Rossiya Segodnya Director of International Cooperation, Mr Vasily Pushkov, praised the respectful, mutually beneficial cooperation among equal partners.
