ZIMPOST has extended its money transfer service, Zipcash, to Botswana as it moves to expand business and offer Diasporans a more reliable option for sending of remittances. Anna Munembe, Zimpost spokesperson yesterday said service extension to the neighbouring country was meant to assist relatives to send and receive money easily.
“The extension of the service to cover Botswana is poised to bring convenience to Zimbabweans with relatives working in Botswana, who are now able to send back to them at affordable rates,” she said.
“Zipcash customers can now send or receive money to and from Botswana. Plans to extend the same service to South Africa are also at an advanced stage.”
Munembe said Zipcash was an electronically connected transfer service linked to the International Financial Union.
“Zimpost launched the system last year. The system allows customers to securely send or receive money locally and internationally through the postal network. Zipcash is a money transfer service that sits on an electronic platform called International Financial System developed by the Universal Postal Union (UPU),” she said.
“Zipcash has the capability to connect to over 600,000 post offices worldwide subject to bilateral arrangements between countries. It also allows instant money transfer even for those without a bank account.”
Munembe said Zipcash was accessible to a huge population courtesy of Zimpost’s 227 outlets nationwide.
“Zimpost is well represented even in the most remote areas. This means that Zimbabweans can now send fees, bus fare and pocket money to their children at boarding schools,” she said.
Recently Telecel partnered South Africa’s leading remittance company Mukuru.com to enable its clients to instantly receive money from South Africa through its Tele-cash facility.
