ZIMBABWE’S gospel outfit of the moment — Zimpraise Choir — is set to headline a potentially explosive music fiesta pitting some of the country’s chart topping artistes in Bulawayo at the end of the month. The gig running under the theme, “It’s all about Jesus” will be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair on March 30.

The choir group is expected to share the stage with man-of-the-moment, Mathius Mhere of the Favour fame, Worship Addicts and Pastor G.

Zimpraise, famed for its hit-track Sungano off the Covenant album released last year, caused ripples on the airwaves and cemented their position on the local scene as arguably one of the best gospel outfits in Zimbabwe.

Zimpraise publicist, Farirai Macheka said the gospel concert would be her group’s second performance in Bulawayo.

“This will be our first show in Bulawayo this year after two years. Our chief executive officer, Joseph Madziyire was born in Bulawayo and as such, we have decided to reconnect with his roots,” said Macheka.

Macheka said the group, which has six albums to its name, would also be celebrating its double nomination in the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards.

Macheka said the 80-member choir recently recruited more students from its academy, bringing its number to 140 vocalists and instrumentalists.

“We are interdonimational choirs, a ministry striving to spread the Word of God through music and we have established an academy where we groom youngsters from different denominations until they can perfectly fit into our choir.

“We need God-fearing people who sing for the glory of God,” Macheka said.

Zimpraise Choir has often been compared with South Africa’s celebrated gospel outfit Joyous Celebration which is made up of soloists from various denominations, as well as cultures drawn from across Southern Africa.

Meanwhile, the choir will go to London where they are expected to join Dr Morris Cerullo and a host of other international speakers and musicians at Earls Court One in August.

Last year, Zimpraise embarked on its first international tour of the United Kingdom where they reportedly held two sold out shows.
