THE inaugural Miss ZimPride held over the weekend at Belgravia Sports Club was marred by poor organisation and low turnout.
After delays of an hour, Tyra Muropa was crowned Miss ZimPride ahead of 12 other beauties who were vying for the title.ZimPride, which was launched last year, is a social business network and the pageant was part of the launch of a website as well as support for young women.

During the show, drunk revellers disrupted proceedings when they stormed the stage causing confusion in full view of security guards.

Takunda Chipfiko (20) was named the first princess while Kudzai Lizinduko (21) was picked as the second princess. Miss Personality was awarded to a Girls High pupil Shroan Nelson (15).

The queen walked away with a Samsung Galaxy tab, a fashion make-over voucher, three outfits among other things, and became the brand ambassador.

The 21-year-old beauty said she was overwhelmed after winning the crown.

“I’m really overwhelmed and surprised. I will do my best to be a good ambassador and change the face of this brand,” she said.

Flamboyant gospel hip-hop rapper Mudiwa Mtandwa thrilled the audience as he belted out his hits such as Ndaita Mari and Anhu Acho.

He also took the opportunity to sample his new single Number One, a song that praises God.

Another up-and-coming artiste, Varaidzo dished out some tracks from her debut album and collaborated on a track titled Love You Too Much with the rapper Maskiri.

One of the event organisers, Sharon Mandaza said they were happy because the event was a success.

“It was a good start for us and we have made the pageant an annual event. However, the turnout was a bit low due to lack of advertisement. This being our first time, we have learnt from our mistakes and we promise to do things better next time,” she said.

The pageant ran under the theme “Bringing Talent to Light”.
