THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has allayed fears over potential job losses for its staff due to automation saying the organisation actually needs more workers.
With an estimated 3 000 employees countrywide, there has been anxiety that the tax collector’s shift to digitisation of its operations could result in retrenchment of many workers.
In line with global standards, Zimra recently mainstreamed digital operations to improve efficiency and curb corruption and this has been welcomed by its stakeholders.
Commenting on the issue during a recent engagement with the media in Bulawayo, Zimra corporate affairs executive, Mrs Gladman Njanji said after the introduction of the new system, Zimra requires more workers.
“No jobs will be lost but instead we need more workers to expedite processes. We look forward to improved service delivery and there are no fears of retrenchment,” she said.
Zimra introduced automated systems to curb corruption particularly at the country’s border posts.
The automation and modernisation of operations is also meant to improve revenue collection by reducing leakages and also reduce human interaction to curb corruption.
Zimra has more than 3 000 workers making it one of the country’s biggest employers.
Mrs Njanji said Zimra has put in place a number of measures to fight corruption within and outside the organisation.
