A Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) employee appeared in court for allegedly raping his minor niece.

David Kachembere (62) of Epworth appeared before magistrate Mrs Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, who remanded him in custody to October 4.

Prosecuting, Ms Ropafadzo Botsch alleged that on an unknown date in July, the victim, whose age was not given, was sleeping in her room but went into Kachembere’s room crying after having nightmares. The victim stated that she was now afraid to sleep alone, Kachembere then told her to sleep in his room on the floor since his wife was away.

Kachembere then allegedly sneaked in the victim’s blankets and raped her.

Kachembere allegedly threatened to throw her and the aunt out of the house if she told anyone. The minor kept the matter to herself until September 11 when Kachembere’s wife noticed something different about her.

Kachembere’s wife then interrogated her and she eventually admitted to being raped. She reported to the police leading to his arrest.
