Benz Club director Michael Mucharasa last week appeared in court for allegedly defrauding herb supplier, Green World (Private) Limited of $177 161.

Mucharasa (42) appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa who remanded him out of custody to October 30 on $500 bail.

Mucharasa was also ordered to surrender his passport and to reside at the same address. Prosecuting, Ms Ropafadzo Botsch alleged that during the period January 2017 to June 2018, Mucharasa purchased medicinal herbs from Green World with the intention of reselling them. Mucharasa allegedly tendered fake Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) forms purporting to have made payments for the herbs using his ZB Bank and Ecobank accounts. Acting on the fake forms, Green World then supplied Mucharasa with the herbs.

Green World discovered the fraud when they cross-checked with their account bank statements, which showed that no payments had been made.

This led to Mucharasa’s arrest.
