Zimra seizes haulage truck as deviant truck driver ferries unauthorised goods

A Truck driver employed by Armesham  Freight Private Limited, a company, appeared at the Gweru Magistrate Court facing charges of transporting unauthorised goods valued at R 472 823, unbeknown to his employer.

Douglas Tengende (53) has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.

According to the State: “On the 28th day of October 2024, Tengende left for South Africa driving an ERF Super Link Truck heading for Johannesburg to collect tiles.

“On the second day of November 2024, in defiance of specific instructions given, the accused person arrived at Beitbridge border from South Africa heading to Harare where the tiles were supposed to be delivered.

“During an inspection by Beitbridge customs officials at the scan department, unauthorised goods were discovered, which were not part of the consignment that he had been sent to collect by the complainant.

“The accused person failed to declare the goods to the customs officials with a customs value of ZAR 472 823.00 which are listed on the annexure which led to the seizure of the vehicle.”
