Doek n Jeans event brings year-end celebration amid Doek and Slay cancellations

While the popular Doek and Slay event faced cancellations in Bulawayo and all other cities other than Harare due to rain fears for the December edition, the upcoming Doek n Jeans event in Bulawayo, organised by the Zimbabwe Progressive Youth Foundation, promises a vibrant alternative for women seeking an end-of-year celebration.

Thabani Madhlayo, one of the event organisers, shared his excitement about the fifth edition of Doek n Jeans, set to take place on December 7, 2024, at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre.
“As we wrap up 2024, we’re thrilled to host an unforgettable Doek n Jeans end-of-year ladies’ party. This year, women will be dressed in blue jeans, their choice of top, and a doek of their choice. We’re making it bigger and better in every way,” said Madhlayo.

The Doek n Jeans festival is designed to offer women a space to relax, celebrate, and support each other while showcasing local, women-led businesses.

Madhlayo highlighted the event’s mission to recognise women’s contributions in both their families and communities.
“Doek n Jeans promotes Ubuntu among women and celebrates their vital roles in society. Often, we see women working tirelessly, even on the streets, to support their families. This festival is a way to honour their resilience,” Madhlayo noted.

The event will feature music from DJs including DJ Tino, DJ Smokie, DJ Kayb, and DJ Emza, along with special guest DJs. Food stalls offering local delicacies will be on hand, and competitions like dancing and drinking contests will keep attendees entertained.

Madhlayo invited women from Bulawayo, Plumtree, Gwanda, Lupane, Victoria Falls, and beyond, saying, “We welcome ladies from all over to join us.”
