Zimra staffer jailed for theft

He was slapped with an effective three- year-jail term.
Victor Nyathi (25) pleaded not guilty to theft of trust property charges but regional magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa convicted him after a full trial.

Mr Tsikwa sentenced Nyathi to four years imprisonment of which one year was set aside on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
In passing judgment, Mr Tsikwa highlighted that Nyathi’s moral blameworthiness was very high considering that he was single and had no dependants but was earning US$400, far ahead of civil servants who were earning an average of US$150.

Nyathi was employed as Zimra’s clerical administrative assistant based at Kurima House, 89 Nelson Mandela Ave in Ha- rare.
Nyathi’s conduct prejudiced Zimra of US$1 695 750 and nothing was recovered.
