Zimra to continue adopting new technology, says Pasi

THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) says it will continue   adopting new technology as a strategy to improve its service delivery. In a speech read on his behalf by the authority’s Bulawayo port station manager Sitheni Ncube, to commemorate the International Customs Day on Monday, the Commissioner-General Gershem Pasi said they would embrace technological communication and advancement as a strategy of improving service delivery.

The celebrations were held under the theme “Communication: Sharing information for better co-operation”.
“In this era characterised by increased role of information communication technology, we are all left with no option but to embrace technology and to adapt to any technological advancement,” he said.

Pasi said the move was part of the revenue authority’s strategic thrust and goals for the period 2013 to 2015 to improve their services.
“This is why as Zimra, we have made it a deliberate strategic thrust to adopt technological innovation as one of our strategic goals for the period 2013 -2015,” he said.

Pasi added: “This goal entails developing and utilising appropriate technology and infrastructure to enhance stakeholder value and improve operational efficiency.”

He said the technology will enable Zimra to communicate and interact with clients for mutual benefit. Pasi said Zimra as an institution would enter into strategic partnerships involving working with the government, business community, clients and international bodies to achieve its goals.

“For us, strategic partnerships involve working with stakeholders who are government, business community, clients, as well as regional and international bodies in order to achieve our common goals,” he said.

The country’s new five-year economic blue print, Zim Asset makes special emphasis on Information Communication Technology (ICT) and the need to revamp ICT infrastructure for improved communication and economic development.
