Zimra to launch drone

THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) is set to launch a drone along the Beitbridge border post.

ZIMRA board vice-chairperson, Josephine Matambo, said they will launch the drone next month to monitor all illegal entry points into Zimbabwe.

Matambo told H-Metro that they are currently training personnel to operate the drone.

“We aim to be flying it by the end of December. Training of our drone operators and staff will be done at the beginning of December,” she said.

The drone is a security measure to help prevent leakages in revenue collection.

“We have noticed that there are cross border traders that have been using undesignated entry points.

“They have been smuggling goods through those points, hence depriving us of duty payment,” she said.
