Zimrights official denied bail

Chinaka (30) and Farai Bhani have unsuccessfully sought bail since their arrest last month.
The three are accused of trying to discredit the country’s voters’ roll by manufacturing counterfeit copies of the certificate of registration as a voter.

Yesterday they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe, who threw out their application on the basis that the matter had been dealt with at High Court level.

“Once a matter has appeared before a judge of the High Court, the magistrate’s court no longer has jurisdiction to hear the matter and consequently the matter is hereby dismissed,” he said.

Through their lawyers Mr Trust Maanda and Mr Tavengwa Masara the three had made another bail application citing changed circumstances.

The lawyers admitted that they had previously been to the High Court seeking the same relief and their application for bail was dismissed.
