This aptly sums up the last weekend of August which offers variety to revellers.
With the curtain coming down on the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) tomorrow, Harare will certainly come under the spotlight as event planners, club owners and arts promoters have lined up a series of festivities to end the week-long expo.
Fun-loving people will be spoilt for choice as mega shows have been lined up in Harare and its environs.
Below are some of the major highlights of the weekend set to usher merry-makers into the bright weekend:
Life-changing Zim Cup Clash hits H-Town
The search for Zim dancehall’s next generation of chanters takes centre stage tomorrow at City Sports Stadium in Harare at this year’s Zimbabwe Cup Clash.
Formerly Harare Cup Clash, the event which coincides with the last day of ZAS, is set to unearth new gems.
More than 50 chanters and 100 sound systems have registered with event organisers.
Chipaz Promotions under the directorship of Partson “Chipaz’ Chimbodza is behind the event.
Top chanters including Seh Calaz, Silent Killer, Poptain, Jah Master, Hwinza, Killer T and Jah Signal are part of the line-up.
Hype-men Godfatha Templeman, Etherton Beenie, Merciless Zimbabwe and Garry B will be in charge of the decks.
Not to be outdone is the Chillspot clique, which is set to celebrate its 12th anniversary at the event.
Chillspot co-director, DJ Fantan assured fans of a fun-filled anniversary.
“We have partnered with Chipaz Promotions for this year’s Cup Clash expected to give birth to the new generation of chanters.
“It is also a special occasion for us as we celebrate our 12th anniversary.
“We started this movement in 2012 but today we are here changing many lives and creating employment among the talented ghetto youths,” he said.
Unplugged Coca-Cola Food Fest back
First Capital Sports Club is one of the places to be in Harare for “party animals’ with class when it hosts the Unplugged X Coca-Cola Food Fest tomorrow.
A vibrant celebration of music, food and premium outdoor experience, the event parades a star-studded line-up comprising South Africa’s top musician, Tsholofelo Mokhine — better known as Felo Le Tee — will headline the event.
Known for such club bangers as “Ngwana Mani”, “66”, and “Dipatje Tsa Felo”, the singer is tipped to keep fans on the dance floor.
Local acts comprising Killer T, Holy Ten, Tammy Moyo, Travellers Band and Melyssa will be out to give fans value for their money.
Top wheel-spinners comprising DJ Rimo, Chiweddar, DJ Springer, DJ TK Beatz and DJ SB are to bring variety.
“Food lovers are in for a treat! The festival will showcase an array of gourmet food trucks, local restaurants, and culinary artisans.
“The Unplugged X Coca-Cola has made sure that all the culinary needs are well considered with Smokey Hut, Burger Thangs, Chicken Hut, Bird5 Nest, Love Sushi all geared to give revellers a culinary flair to the festival.
“The Unplugged X Coca-Cola Food Fest is more than just a festival; it is a community celebration.
“Whether you are coming for the music, the food, or the culture, this event is a must-attend for anyone looking to experience real magic,” said the event organisers in a statement.
Macheso back to his roots
After a successful tour of the United Kingdom last weekend, Alick Macheso wraps up the August schedule with a show in his hometown of Shamva.
Macheso performs at Liquid Lounge’s official opening tonight along with another Mashonaland Central’s loyal son, Freeman.
Consistent rappers Kikky Bad***, Bling 4, Zimbwoy and MC Tatts are also part of the bill.
After this affair, Macheso proceeds to Chinhoyi for another double at CSC Social Club in Chinhoyi alongside Selmor Mtukudzi tomorrow.
Dubbed “Dad and Daughter Night”, Macheso and Selmor’s chemistry on stage is awesome and inspiring.
On Sunday, Macheso wraps up his schedule with a family show at Steakhouse Pub & Grill in Waterfalls, Harare.
He shares the stage with Peter Moyo and Cymplex Sounds at this particular show.
Victorious Kunonga unstoppable
Jazz crooner Victor Kunonga is simply unstoppable!
Tonight, he returns to Sherwood Golf Club in Mabelreign, Harare for yet another reunion gig with fans.
Kunonga, who has adopted Sherwood Golf Club as his second home, has promised to usher out all his artistic verve at this gig.
He hardly disappoints at this venue which is known for attracting big spenders and policy makers.
Supreme Dendera Sessions on offer
Suluman Chimbetu wraps up the weekend with two shows in Harare dedicated to his late father Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu who died 19 years ago.
After dedicating August to his late father and all fallen creatives, Suluman will conclude the month in style. Tonight, he performs at Cresta Oasis Hotel in Harare.
Dubbed “Classic Dendera Night”, the show is a must-attend for revellers yearning for class. Tomorrow, he holds another show at Mushandirapamwe Hotel in Highfield where he hardly disappoints.
Mushandirapamwe Hotel is a bit special for Suluman since his father perfected his craft at the venue.
Vee Mhofu’s magical mbira sessions
Consistent mbira player, Vee Mhofu, returns to Captain Dete Sports Bar housed at National Railways of Zimbabwe Complex this evening for another session.
Tomorrow, the mbira player performs at Cresta Jameson in Harare.
Backed by the superb Dziva Rembira outfit, the group is currently sampling new songs as well as selling their traditional snuff.
