THE Choice Children’s Choir enjoyed remarkable success at the International Lisbon Sings Competition in what is a great achievement for the Zimbabwean young singers.

The 32-member choir took silver medals.

It received critical acclaim from the five jurors at the competition, who praised the choir’s technical mastery, energy and expressive interpretation of the music. It competed in Categories G1 – Children’s Choirs, and Category F – Folklore, and missed gold by less than a point.

The choir, under the direction of Bright Gwati, previously competed in the World Choir Games in Pretoria in 2018 and is looking forward to competing for Gold in Auckland, New Zealand, next year.

Zimbabwe’s traditional music was celebrated by people from around the world at the competition’s closing ceremony, where the choir was chosen as one of five choirs to perform.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our children who competed in some cases against adult choirs from Europe and conquered,” said choir director Bright Gwati.

“I am so proud of all our hard work and raising the Zimbabwe flag high.

“Zimbabwe’s traditional music was celebrated by people from around the world at the competition’s closing ceremony, where the choir was chosen as one of five choirs out of 33 groups to perform.

“This accomplishment is an excellent example of what hard work and dedication can achieve for talented young people in Zimbabwe.”

The choir arrives back home on Wednesday.
