Zim’s vaccination drive envy of Africa

Some countries around the world, including South Africa, are entering another phase of fresh lockdowns as they begin to record high daily positive cases of Covid-19.

Thank God and the Government’s timely interventions, for Zimbabwe the situation is still under control.

If citizens remain vigilant and diligent, the country may be able to come out of the Covid-19 with minimal damage as compared to what other countries around the world have suffered.

Take for instance how the Covid-19 pandemic third wave has ravaged India. It was unbearable. This is a message and a warning for all of us to take heed and be conscious about the pandemic.

So as a patriotic and a responsible Zimbabwean citizen, what role can you play so that we avoid this impending third wave?

Fortunately, the Government has introduced a vigorous and robust vaccination programme that all well-meaning Zimbabweans must applaud and play their role to take part in.

Zimbabwe has executed the Covid-19 vaccination programme much better than many countries around the globe.

And, if all goes well, we should be in a position to reach herd immunity soon as other parts of the country such as Victoria Falls have already achieved the feat.

Regardless of the huge efforts by the Government to get everyone vaccinated, there have been fake and false stories and theories concerning and surrounding Covid-19 vaccination.

Everyone is aware of many vaccination myths and stories doing the rounds in the streets, workplaces and social media platforms, though without sufficient scientific facts backing them up.

This has made many people to second guess their decisions to get vaccinated.

The fact of the matter is that many people have been vaccinated, including this writer. The myths have not been anything except just another bag of lies and false speculations.

Now is the time to go and get your jab if you were not yet vaccinated.

We all need to play our role, especially in these difficult times. That role for all of us as Zimbabweans is as simple as getting vaccinated.

Vaccination in Zimbabwe is free, and it won’t take much of your time as there are many vaccination centres in the country; thereby decongesting major vaccination centres such as Wilkins Hospital, among others.

We have all witnessed the effects and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic first-hand for us to play the wait and see attitude.

Everyone among us needs to be initiative, proactive and get vaccinated.

Our leaders have played a great exemplary role by leading by example.

From President Mnangagwa to the Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, they took their first and second jabs before our eyes to testify to the efficacy and safety of the Chinese vaccines.

Since the start of the Zimbabwean vaccination programme, we have not received much negative feedback as far as the side effects are concerned, compared to our neighbours, South Africa, who had to halt their programme in fear of the detrimental side effects of their vaccine of choice.

This is all a sign to all of us that the vaccines being administered in Zimbabwe are safe and effective against all these Covid-19 variants.

If you have been vaccinated, kudos to you, but the battle is not yet over as we still need to stand guided by the World Health Organisation and the Government’s Covid-19 protocols.

Let us continue to wear our masks, maintaining social distance and avoiding overcrowded places. We should not be complacent until the battle is won.

Many people are still ignorant of the effects and impact of this pandemic, hence the need to remain on guard as far as educating our brothers and sisters is concerned.

We must all be our brother’s keeper.

The winter season is also upon us; colds and flus are common in these times. So, just do not lose guard.

Remember to stay fit, always watch your diet and invest in your mental health. In the end, you will have a strong and robust immune system. Remember your health is your wealth. Therefore, always be on the lookout for danger to protect yourself, your family and all your loved ones.
