According to a statement issued by the board yesterday, Zimstats chairman Mr Douglas Hoto, Mr Dzinotizei’s appointment follows the approval by President Mugabe and Finance Minister Tendai Biti.
“The board of Zimstats is pleased to announce to the public and co-operating partners and other stakeholders the appointment of Mr Mutasa Dzinotizei as director-general of Zimstats.
“Mr Dzinotizei’s long service and experience in the civil service has enhanced his appreciation of the role of statistics in strategic planning, business decision-making, policy formulation, research and investment,” said Mr Hoto.
He added that Mr Dzinotizei would assume his position as the Zimstats director-general as of next month at a time when the company has started preparations for the 2012 national census.
Mr Dzinotizei is a trained economist from the University of Zimbabwe.
He is a former mathematics teacher and is currently the Principal Director who is responsible for finance and taxation in the Ministry of Finance.
The director-general’s duties include co-ordination and supervision of the national statistics system and to advise Government on all matters related to statistics. Zimstats has been hunting for a new director-general after operating for about seven years under the supervision of acting director-general Mr Moffat Nyoni.
