Zimta games begin today

this morning.
The Games will see participants taking part in four disciplines – soccer, netball, volleyball and athletics.
The fifth edition of the annual Zimta Games has attracted all the 10 provinces.

Zimta National Sports Chairperson, Augustine Manyau, is confident that this could be one of their best organised tournaments.
“I think we are going to have a lot of fun and competition from various provinces. The games are good for social interaction and fitness for the athletes.
“The annual games will help us build a national select team that will represent us in the Southern Africa Regional Games to be held here in Harare in a fortnight.

“We are hopeful that all the provinces will bring teams for every sporting discipline for the inter-provincial for us to select the best athletes.
‘We need the best team as we host the fifth edition of the tournament and this is working as a motivating factor as everyone wants to be in the final team,” Manyau said.

The chairperson said he was happy with the condition of the facilities in Gweru. We will be using the Mkoba Teachers’ grounds and the Mkoba Stadium as well as a primary school facilities which will be good for us.

“Tendai Chikore, the Zimta National President, will be the guest of honour and will be looking forward to competitive games as usual.
“The Southern Africa Regional Games to be held in Harare are the ones to look forward to as we will have considerable home support.

“So far three countries have confirmed their participation with two yet to confirm,” Manyau said.
Meanwhile, the BN Academy soccer coaching clinic ends today at Belgravia Sports Club. The closing ceremony will feture a game between tghe Academy and Pin Code from Gokwe.
