in Zimbabwe with new export markets internationally, an official has revealed.
Addressing delegates from the Small and Medium Enterprises at a conference last week, ZimTrade regional manager for

Matabeleland Mr Similo Nkala said the organisation was there to assist local companies reach global markets.

“As ZimTrade we will be going to South Sudan and  Lumbashi in May as well as Tanzania in June for their trade fairs and we intend to take along with us some of the local companies for the  exhibition as this will help them secure international markets and market their products,” he said.

Mr Nkala said they are likely to take companies which participated in ZimTrade export training programmes.

“ZimTrade is inviting companies to its Export Marketing Training Programme which will help the participants explore export markets in a profitable and sustainable manner.

“Companies are also being invited  to the ZimTrade facilitated trade exhibitions for 2012 whereby they will have a chance to showcase their products also.”

He said although SMEs managed to showcase their products during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) they were being obstructed by bigger companies hence this chance to market their products again.

“During the ZITF, there were a lot of big companies and they posed a lot of competition for small businesses and again some of the SMEs did not manage to attend the trade fair hence  this was a   better platform for SMEs to advertise themselves,” Mr Nkala  said.

He said for successful export promotion, businesses must be ready and willing to research on attracting export promotions.

“There is need to have full knowledge about the market and product position because lack of these will result in a flop.

“There is also need to have a competitive price as well as a good product differentiation in terms of sizes, flavours and shapes to hold interest of the targeted market,” he said.
