ZIMBABWE and Namibia businesses should close ranks and accelerate collaboration to strengthen their capacity to tap into vast investment and trade opportunities in both countries, and beyond the region.

Speaking at a business forum hosted for the Zimbabwe Trade Mission to Namibia in Windhoek on Wednesday, ZimTrade southern region manager, Mrs Jacqueline Nyathi, outlined Zimbabwe’s diverse investment and trade opportunities – cutting across various product lines and sectors, while affirming ZimTrade’s readiness to assist local businesses to grow exports into Namibia and globally in line with the country’s export-led growth drive.

She also delivered a detailed Zimbabwe trade profile and statistics between the country and Namibia, highlighting gaps and opportunities for business from both countries.

In particular, Mrs Nyathi emphasized that Namibia was a strategic gateway for Zimbabwean businesses to exploit other western Africa markets through the Walvis Bay, where Zimbabwe operates a dry port.

The country already enjoys comparative advantage to drive exports in key sectors such as manufacturing, mining, agriculture, human capital development and recently steel production.

Zimbabwean Ambassador to Namibia, Melody Chaurura, is leading the country’s business delegation, which is participating in a three-day trade mission organised by ZimTrade in Windhoek. Namibia is a key regional partner for Zimbabwe and the two countries have enjoyed cordial bilateral ties from pre-independence ties.
