ZIMURA saga takes new twist

THE Zimbabwe Music Rights Association have said ousted board member, Philip Chipfumbu, has no right to call for an EGM using the organisation’s name as well as addressing its membership.

Chipfumbu, and his colleague, Fred Nyakudanga, are mobilising musicians to attend an EGM at the Zimbabwe College of Music on June 22.

“Seriously take heed that two unauthorised members of the public – one Philip Chipfumbu and one Fred Farai Nyakudanga – are calling on Zimbabwe Music Rights (ZIMURA) members to attend an Extraordinary General meeting at Zimbabwe College of Music on the 22nd of June 2023 on various blogs and social media groups,” ZIMURA board member for information and publicity, Alexio Gwenzi, said in a statement.

“They are also asking for money from members to fund this meeting.

“ZIMURA members are hereby notified that the meeting is not a ZIMURA Extraordinary Meeting.

“It is contrary to the ZIMURA Memorandum and Articles of Association.”

Gwenzi said ZIMURA, which currently has 4182 members, fired Chipfumbu and Nyakudanga for breaching their constitution.

“This Notice is made so that you do not lose your money to people pretending to be ZIMURA members.”

Chipfumbu and Nyakudanga said the EGM will go ahead as planned.

“There is nothing stopping us from holding this EGM issue. Here we are dealing with legitimacy issues which they are dodging. It’s going to be a class of 32 and we hope to really come to the bottom of this matter.

“These people are afraid of facing musicians and this should not be allowed to continue happening.

“No one is legitimate at ZIMURA and no one has the power to fire anyone because the last notable board, which was registered, was the one which had the likes of Joice Simeti who died in 2016,” said Nyakudanga.
