Zimura warns “rogue” directors

The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) board of directors and management has strongly condemned recent unauthorised public communications issued by a group of “disgruntled” individual directors acting without board mandate. This condemnation follows discord that surfaced this week, where two public notices concerning the association’s direction and grievances were released.

One statement was issued by the secretariat, while the other came from Dereck Mpofu, Gift Amuli, and Joseph Garakara.

In their latest statement, the Zimura board of directors and management condemned the act.

“Our organisation is currently seized with a matter involving a small group of internal actors whose recent conduct suggests a coordinated effort to discredit the organization.

“It has become evident that these actions are not mere grievances, but are potentially sponsored by external interests seeking the deregistration of Zimura to the detriment of our entirenational arts industry.

“Regrettably, it is now clear that certain individuals have been co-opted into a broader scheme to destabilise Zimura,” reads part of the statement.

“These rogue elements have disregarded the internal dispute resolution mechanisms they were sworn to uphold. We are currently documenting all instances of bad faith and will pursue the necessary legal remedies to protect the organization’s reputation. While we respect the right to diverse opinions, we condemn the use of unauthorised channels to spread falsehoods that undermine the collective interests of our members. We regret that these individuals have bypassed established governance protocols and fiduciary duties by airing internal administrative matters in the public domain.”

The board of directors and management added:

“Our focus remains on the equitable distribution of royalties and the protection of copyright. We also wish to reassure our members and the Government of Zimbabwe that we are taking decisive action to neutralize these ‘termites’ within our structures.”

The Zimura board comprises Dingumuzi Phuti, First Batani, Alexio Gwenzi, Mpofu, Amuli, Garakara, Chiedza Shoniwa and Evelyn Natsai Moyo.
