Zinara Head of Administration and Human Resources, Mr Precious Murove yesterday said the vehicles had been detected at the national vehicledatabase.
“During the induction training of Harare province highway we had a two hours mock operation along Seke Road and discovered that about 158 vehicles out of about 700 were not licensed,” Mr Murove said.
“We are now carrying some due diligence and logistics on transferring ownership of the vehicle to our law enforcement agencies by Monday next week. We have also planned training for Zinara and ZRP officials on how the vehicle operates.”
Mr Murove said the police would decide where they want to use the high-tech vehicle. He added that more high-tech vehicles were going to be imported. The vehicle is equipped with electronic gadgets directly linked to Zinara’s national vehicle database and video recorders. The car has an automatic numberplate recognition device with an all-weather infrared camera.
Meanwhile Zinara head of corporate communications, Mr Augustine Moyo said the road authority had discovered that 40 000 vehicles out of 330 000 licensed have not been paying licenses for the past four years.
This was despite the fact that the vehicles were on the road.
