Zinara takes over from Zimra

THE Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) will assume control of 14 border posts that were under the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) in the collection of road access fees.
In a public notice, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development said this will take place with effect from today.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development would like to advise the public that with effect from September 15, Zinara is taking over the collection and management of road access fees from Zimra,” read the notice.

The border posts according to the notice are Beitbridge, Forbes, Nyamapanda, Kanyemba, Pandamatenga, Chirundu, Plumtree, Victoria Falls, Mphoengs, Sango, Mkumbura, Kariba, Mt Selinda and Maitengwe.

“All members of the motoring public passing through these border posts are being advised to be patient during the transitional period,” read the notice.
Road access fee is levied on motorists arriving into the country at any border post. The charges are $20 for heavy vehicles and $10 for light vehicles.

Zinara is responsible for the allocation and disbursement, to road authorities, funds from the Road Fund in accordance with prescribed rules.
The body is also responsible for auditing the use of the funds from the Road Fund by road authorities and to ensure that disbursed funds are utilised for the purpose for which they are intended and in accordance with prescribed rules.
