THE Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) has drilled a borehole as an alternative water source for the Marula community along the Bulawayo-Plumtree road, as the only water supply dam to the area is facing decommissioning.
Lower Goodluck Dam is the only dam which has been functioning since the decommissioning of Upper Goodluck Dam.
According to Zinwa, the dam may be decommissioned as it is now below four percent which is way below decommissioning level.
Zinwa spokesperson Mrs Marjorie Munyonga said the borehole was expected to sustain the Marula community which is made up of 28 Zinwa clients for the next coming years. Zinwa clients include schools, clinics, shops and abattoirs. Marula Primary School is also among Zinwa clients and Mrs Danayi Dube, the headmistress told Sunday News that they were content with the water supply.
“We appreciate what Zinwa has done for us by installing a borehole which is a safe way of us getting water. Since we are a boarding school it means we constantly need water for our school activities,” said Mrs Dube.
