made the request, for Zinwa to take over, through the Ministry of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development — its parent ministry — citing operational challenges and inability to collect revenue from the water consumers in the two areas.
The takeover now means that Zinwa is now responsible for the water treatment, reticulation and billing in the two places.
“This gesture by Masvingo Rural District Council once again shows the confidence which different institutions have in us as a water authority.
We shall strive to ensure that we provide the best service to the thousands of people who now look to us for water at Nemanwa and Mashava,” Zinwa public relations manager Mrs Marjorie Munyonga said.
She added that the authority has also taken over personnel who worked at the two water supply stations.
This move has subsequently seen a significant increase in the authority’s customer base and is a showcase of Zinwa’s expertise in the provision of water to the nation.
Zinwa operates more than 530 water supply stations throughout the country, mainly in small towns, growth points and rural service centres.
“We take pride in the knowledge that people out there recognise the expertise that resides in our organisation.
We are very confident that we provide a reliable supply of good quality water, not only to the residents for Mashava and Nemanwa but to the country as a whole,” Mrs. Munyonga said.
She also appealed to the residents of Mashava and Nemamwa to pay for the water they consumed.
“We urge the residents to do the right thing and pay their water bills to Zinwa so that we will be able to continue providing quality service by investing more in the water infrastructure to ensure continued and uninterrupted water supply”, added Mrs Munyonga.
