THE Zimbabwe Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees Association (ZIPEDRA) will hold its elective congress in Gweru on October 25, 2025.

The current interim national executive’s term of office expired in 2014.

The ZIPEDRA Constitution clearly states how provincial elections must be held, which will then lead to a congress. The congress was delayed due to Covid-19.

ZIPEDRA acting spokesperson Cde Sani Musiyazviriyo confirmed the development, saying they are waiting to conduct provincial elections that will lead to the congress.

“We are expecting to hold provincial elections in Masvingo, Midlands, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Harare. We are expecting to have a standardised road map for all bona fide members to participate in a transparent, free and fair election,” he said.

Those contesting for the chairmanship position are Cdes Taurai Ndekwere, Albert Mugadza, Joseph Madungwe and Musiyazviriyo.

The elections are being held following the death of its chairman, Cde Victor Kuretu, who was declared a national hero last month.
