adminPARIS. — Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not short on self confidence and the Swedish hitman claimed that he doesn’t need the Ballon d’Or to prove that he is the best player in the world. The 32-year-old was named on the shortlist for the award but Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery are the front-runners to pick up the glamorous trophy in January.
After helping Paris Saint-Germain to a 2-1 Champions League victory over Olympiakos, Zlatan was in a defiant mood: “I don’t need the Ballon d’Or to know that I’m the best.’
Ibrahimovic said the award mattered “more to some people”, but he showed he was amongst the world’s best with this performance as the Ligue 1 leaders were roared onto victory.
“It seems very important for other players, but for me it’s not important”, said Ibrahimovic.
“I know what I feel about myself and I know what I think about myself, that is most important.”
Ibrahimovic continued his fine form in front of goal, and equalled a Champions League record as he sent Paris Saint-Germain through to the last 16 of the Champions League.
The Swedish striker netted his eighth goal in the competition after seven minutes, putting him level with Ruud Van Nistelrooy and others as the top scorers in the group stage against Greek side Olympiakos.
There was a sour note for PSG when Marco Verratti was sent off one minute into the second half, and then ten minutes from time Kostas Manolas made it 1-1, but Edinson Cavani netted in the final minute to make sure of the win and secure their passage into the knock-out stages. — Mailonline
