According to statistics released by the African Development Bank, small scale miners pushed gold output up from 126,5 kg in June to 388,1 kg in October this year.
ZMF president Trynos Nkomo told New Ziana that the federation was also partnering different stakeholders to assist Government in mechanising small scale miners.
“We are partnering with Nico Orgo for the supply of equipment on credit basis,” he said.
Government recently purchased 50 compressors from China for use by small scale miners.
“A total of 50 mining compressors have been purchased and more are coming since this is an ongoing scheme,” said Nkomo.
Gold mining has played a significant part in the country’s total export receipts, generating at least $334,2 million for the country in 2010.
Production volume increased by 93,7 percent to 9 620 tonnes in 2010.
In 2011, production is projected to increase to 13 000 tonnes.
